Terra is another one of those wonder-mom cats that we occasionally rescue with their babies. Terra not only nursed her own litter to adoption age, she also nursed three other orphaned litters.
Unfortunately, she does not trust people which means she is not adoptable. She does very well with the other sanctuary cats and seems happy to live as a sanctuary cat.

Missy is a beautiful calico kitten that was born in Page Arizona. She was socialized by a lady who worked at the local shelter. She was able to gain Missy’s trust after about a year. When the gas station was demolished, Missy disappeared for about 6 months. When she unexpectedly showed up at the rescue, Wayward Cats was contacted and she became a permanent sanctuary resident.

She had under developed back legs that we thought would never be functional and could potentially result in hip issues as she gets older. As she grew her rear legs continue to develop but have given her a very odd gait when she walks. Paige's resting grumpy face was a hit at adoption events, but her grumpy attitude has kept her from being an ideal candidate for adoption. She is extremely shy and isn't a big fan of new people but does well around her the other resident cats. Paige is a healthy, albeit grumpy, gal and we are more than happy to give her a peaceful and safe place to live out her years.

We were hopeful that they were young enough when they were rescued that they would come around to trusting humans, and they did! All except for Gus. Gus can be a moody guy, but luckily he is very treat-driven so we can normally sneak in a few pets while he is busy with a Squeeze-Up or crunching on treats.

Esmeralda was trapped with her kittens during the height of a “kitten-season”. The foster who took in this family was able to socialize Esme’s kittens; however, Esme remained fearful of human contact. Nelly came to the Sanctuary as an 8-month-old grey and white tabby kitten that was found roaming the street of Phoenix. She is very friendly and loves attention, but she is not comfortable in a sanctuary environment where she has to be around lots of other cats. She is playful and friendly and enjoys being brushed. She is available for adoption and would do best as an only cat.

We realize that many cats have traits that will keep them from being adopted, and that's okay, because we are happy to give Dovey a healthy and safe place to live out her days.

Gizzy was rescued as stray kitten. Gizzy just didn't feel comfortable around people. She did get adopted, but was returned to the rescue after about a year. She was adopted into her forever home in 2023.

All her babies are now in their forever home but, unfortunately, Erin is semi-feral and not adoptable. She handles sanctuary life without problems but does not like being touched. In her photo you can see that she recently had a spa day with a haircut, shampoo, and mani pedi!

When the family came to take care of their fathers affairs, they put Charlie in the trunk of their car with the obvious intention of dumping their burden somewhere. Fortunately a neighbor saw what was happening and interceded and brought him to the Sanctuary. Charlie is a sweet and lovable guy that enjoys attention and gets along very well with the other cats.

All the kittens were suffering from heat exhaustion and were not in very good condition. With Holly, this resulted in her experiencing hypersensitivity in her tail which she bit to the point where her tail had to be amputated. With surgery and medication, she is able to lead a normal and happy life at the sanctuary.

She was extremely malnourished and way underweight (she weighed only 2 pounds, 7 ounces ). She had a severe infection in both eyes and had no control of her left front leg which dragged on the ground when she walked.
At her first vet visit we discovered that her left eye was severely damaged and needed to be removed. Her right eye had a ruptured cornea, and we were able to stabilize her eye with treatment. With steroids and physical therapy Annie was able to regain the complete function of her left leg. At Wayward Cats, we are very happy that we were able to be part of Little Orphan Annie’s remarkable recovery. She has grown into one of the most loving and affectionate residents at our Sanctuary.

We tried many times to trap him and get him neutered, but he was every trap savvy and avoided the traps. One day when the outside catio was open for cleaning Boris just waked in and made himself at home. We thought we would have to release him after he was neutered but after a few hisses he decided that shelter life and regular food was a pretty good gig and decided to become a Wayward Cat. He was a big loveable boy that got along well with all the other sanctuary cats. He loved attention and was the first one to greet visitors for ear scratched and belly rubs. He was well loved and will be missed.

Grey DSH female tabby cat loves belly rubs.
Izzy came to Wayward Cats as a kitten in April of 2023 along with her sister Ila. They were adopted together in July but were returned after a couple of months. It seems that this dynamic duo were always getting into some kind of mischief. One of their favorite tricks was unrolling paper towel and toilet paper rolls whenever that got the chance. Back at the sanctuary, we were able to redirect their energy into less destructive behaviors.

Macey, approximately 8yo gray & white DSH female.
Hi, my name is Macey! I came to the Hadley Home for Wayward Cats sanctuary after my person crossed the rainbow bridge. I am a chill cat who loves people. I enjoy being where you are, receiving pets and affection, and lounging in your lap. I might be shy at first, but I warm up quickly once I get to know you. I like to sit by a window and watch the birds and any other critters that may pass by. Food is the way to my heart, so we will become fast friends when you feed me. I especially like Temptation Treats! I'm currently living at the cat sanctuary and am looking forward to meeting you soon! If you are looking for a cat who would like to be your one and only, I am your gal!

Bubba came to the sanctuary in 2024 when we decided to help out a couple who had found him roaming the streets. He is a big boy, hence the name Bubba. It was supposed to be only for a short stay until they returned from a trip, but they decided they didn’t want him. Bubba does not like people and will hiss and scratch if you get too near, so there is little chance that anyone would adopt him. Fortunately, he gets along very well with the other cats, so we are happy to provide him a place in the sanctuary.

Charlie was born in April of 2022 and was placed in a foster home until he and his siblings were ready for adoption. All of his siblings were adopted but Charlie just couldn’t be socialized. He would hiss, spit, and scratch wherever anyone tried to work with him. He stayed with the foster family until May 2025 when came to the sanctuary. He still does not tolerate people but gets along fine with the sanctuary residents, so we are happy to provide a safe place for him to live.

Onyx came to Wayward Cats in June of 2024 along with two other cats named Tiger and Trey after their person passes away. They had been living on their own for over a year and the only human contact was with a volunteer who stopped by to feed them and change their litter boxes. Of the three cats, Onyx was the most social and would come out when the volunteer brought out the food. He gets along well with the other sanctuary residents but is very shy around people and really hates being touched.

Gray domestic shorthair tabby neutered male, approximately 15 years old.
Spencer came to Wayward Cats Sanctuary in March of 2024 after his owner passed away. Came from the same home as Oscar. He was a little shy at first but warmed up once he got comfortable with in his new environment. He must have had a rough start because his left ear shows some battle damage. Now he loves attention and is very content to sit in your and get back scratches. He has no health issues and is very good about using the litter box. He will probably spend the rest of his life at the sanctuary, and we are happy to be his new forever home.
